Edward H. Cook, P.E. Qualifications Summary

Edward Cook, President of Edward H. Cook & Associates is a registered mechanical engineer with nearly 30 years of experience in the field of building systems, energy supply and demand side management, and utility infrastructure for institutional and commercial facilities. He received his BME from the University of Minnesota and he also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.

During his career he has consulted for or been employed by commercial and industrial firms, private and public colleges and universities, and public sector agencies.

Highlights of his career have included:

  • Recommissioning and commissioning of mechanical and building automation systems of all types for institutional and commercial buildings
  • Developing and implementing comprehensive energy efficiency improvement programs for institutions and businesses resulting in overall reductions of energy consumption ranging from 20 to 35% on a per square foot basis
  • Planning and developing a chilled water utility for a research university campus involving the construction of 8 cluster plants with an overall capacity of 20,000 tons of cooling upon completion
  • Developing and implementing long range plans for the replacement and upgrading of mechanical building systems, central heating/cooling plants, and related utility infrastructure for over 50 million square feet of space
  • Expanding and upgrading a 22,000 point building automation system to include fire and life safety, and the incorporation of advanced control sequences for system-wide energy efficiency improvements
  • Planning and supervising the installation of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for a large building complex
  • Creating measurement and evaluation tools using statistical techniques for the purpose of accurately tracking energy consumption and developing benchmarks by compensating for weather and other significant variables.
  • Planning and overseeing the design and construction of a 60 megawatt primary voltage switching station on a 13.8 KV distribution system.

Mr. Cook has served on Technical Committees for the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the International District Energy Association (IDEA) and the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES). He has received two Energy Management Awards from ASHRAE, published articles in HPAC Engineering magazine, and has delivered many speeches and papers at technical conferences throughout the United States. He is currently a member of ASHRAE and the Building Commissioning Association.
